Bridget Jones fashion then and now: Big pantsbrigitte-16

Happy New Year lesser Mortals! (i.e. those with less than perfect bodies, the wrong side of 30, and slightly low on the spare change front)

What do we all want to do in January? Set New Year Resolutions and get our house in order!! And where better to start than on our wardrobe, especially with our underwear?  Come on – we all have greying old knickers and baggy bras, and you don’t need ME to tell you that! So chuck out, and start afresh. It’s amazing how empowering it is to have some sexy underwear on, under your normal clothes. I remember being shouted at, by a bully of a bloke , whilst at work, and thinking…”hmmm. I have french knickers and suspender belt on”. Certainly felt like I was bursting his bubble! ( at least in my head!)

Personally, I think you should always try to be matching. ( pants and bra) And for each bra, I may buy a few different shapes of pants (thong/boyshorts/big pants/brazillian) depending on whether I think I’ll wear them under tight jeans or skirts. Remember – no VPL. And I really don’t think you need to spend a fortune – just make sure the lace isn’t cheap and scratchy.  I always think  T-shirt (jersey) fabric looks a bit young and teenagey.

I have concentrated on Marks and Spencers, Next and Debenhams, as they offer massive ranges, and cover most needs. If you find they don’t often have your size in stock, then get smart and order what you want on line, for collection in store (click and collect). Try on whilst there, and get a refund straight away on the stuff that doesn’t fit. Do it on credit card, and the money hasn’t even left your account. You  may need to do that on the more extreme sizes, as they don’t often hold stock in store. Order a range of sizes to make sure you get the right one. My local Debenhams has a really good fitting department, and a wide range of brands.

large boobs lingerie

Whatever size and shape you are, there is sexy underwear out there. There is almost too much to cover in this one post, as I haven’t even stepped into the world of “bodies” and “basques”. But this is more about attractive day to day wear, without having to torture yourself into support undies!! The styles above, are all great for larger busts and larger body shapes. Big pants cover a multitude of sins, but also look great on skinny minnies!

  1. Limited collection Floral balcony bra Marks and Spencers. Sizes A-GG. £17.50 bra. Padded and underwired. Also available in more of a longer bodice style bra A-DD £17.50. As the bra sizes go up, the strap widths get wider to offer more support. Brazilian and thong pants available to match for £7.50.
  2. Total support non- wired embroidered GG-K bra. Marks and Spencers. £17.You will need to order into store for this. It has 4 different colours, with 3 of them having high waisted pants to match for £5. You don’t have to look like your granny. Think Dita Von Teese and all those retro 50’s style bikinis (which will be appearing on the beaches in the summer) Very sexy not frumpy, what ever your size.
  3. Plus firm tummy control sheer opaque high leg knickers. Marks and Spencers £14. These may be control wear, but would look very on trend whatever you shape or size, when worn with matching bra.
  4. Mesh Panel multiway bra £15 and mesh panel control briefs £18. Next.  Sizes B-DD. It can be worn with or without straps.

3 increase bras

For those of us with a flatter chests, these bras can give a subtle boost, and no need for chicken fillets (why would you go there??)

  1. Wow daisy embroidery multiway bra. £20. Next. This bra has hidden padding and really does give you 1-2 cup sizes extra…I looked a bit weird going round feeling all the padded cups, but this really will give you some hidden extra!! Can be worn strapless. Limited sizes 32-36 A-D cup. Matching pants £7.
  2. Egoboost strapless sequin bra. Gossard at Debenhams. Reduced to £14.40 And black sequin ego boost pants. Reduced to £6.60. There are limited sizes left now, so hurry up – a really lovely “going out” set!! extra pads to insert for more “boost”!!
  3. Autograph pleat padded bra £22.50, with low rise brazilian knickers £12.50 Marks and Spencers. Sizes 30-40 in A-DD. If you are flatter chested, I find a half cup or plunge shape fits better. Balcony look silly if you’ve nothing to sit on them!!

perfect rack bras

If you are blessed with a lovely “poitrine” then these bras are for you!.

  1. Jacquard spot matching bra and pants. Next. Available in padded plunge and non-wired. Pants are thong, shorts and mini briefs. From £10-12 for the bra and £5-6 for the pants. Sizes 30-38″ and A to DD cup. If you don’t like bra straps showing, you can get a colour to match every spaghetti string strap top you have!

  3. Blue pleated satin plunge bra and hipster briefs. B by Ted Baker at Debenhams. £25 bra and £10.50 pants. Bra 32-38 A-DD. They also offer a “click and collect” service so you can order for pick up in store – but try on whilst you there and return what doesn’t fit.

2 special bras

And whilst you’re at it, and thinking “how can I do that when I am breast feeding or I’ve had a mastectomy??” Well good old M and S have got that covered too. It’s harder to get matching pants unless you go black or white. But….

  1. 2 pack per Una post surgery ornate lace bra with  pants. £29.50 Marks and Spencers. Matching pants £12.50. Disappointingly running out of sizes, but the bras are non wired with prosthetic pockets. There are a few other pretty ones still available on line, but not much choice if you are over 38″. Hopefully they will bring in new summer patterns and colours. The reviews on line were good.
  2. 2 pack maternity flexible spacer nursing padded non-wired bra £29.50. Marks and Spencers. The great thing here, is you could order several sizes, and try them when your milk comes in, so you know which size will fit and you can return the rest. You don’t waste money guessing then! There are limited sizes if you are big, but the reviews on line are positive. Colour limited too, but you should get matching black or white pants. At least it’s an attempt at sexy…..although I should imagine you have other things on your mind….

Remember:

  1. Wash your bra and pants together if you want them to stay the same colour!!
  2. White nylon underwear is dyed white, so biological powder strips the white out, leaving them grey – use non bio. Bio will cause cotton undies to become washed out too, so the need to keep bra and pants together when you wash.
  3. They advise wired bras being washed in a net bag, if you don’t want to have to keep replacing your washing machine ( apparently mens collar stiffeners are the same)

Enjoy – and remember – we are all sexy women, whatever your shape or size.
